Cookies
What we put in your browser.

The short version
If you only visit, we set no cookies at all. If you sign in, we set one, to keep you signed in. We remember your answer to the question about counting visits, in your browser, and nothing else. There is no advertising, no tracking pixel, and nothing from a third party that follows you to other sites.
Cookies, when you sign in
These are strictly necessary: signing in cannot work without them, so they are not covered by the question about counting visits.
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
__Secure-better-auth.session_token | Keeps you signed in. Set when you sign in, removed when you sign out. HttpOnly, so no script on the page can read it. | 30 days, renewed while you use the site |
__Secure-better-auth.state | Only while you sign in with Google. It proves that the answer coming back from Google belongs to the sign-in you started, which stops somebody else from finishing it for you. | 5 minutes |
If you use Google sign-in, Google sets its own cookies on its own site while you choose an account. Those are Google’s, under Google’s cookie policy, and we cannot read them.
Your answer about counting visits
The first time you visit we ask whether we can count it. The answer is kept in your browser’s local storage, under of-consent, so we do not ask on every page. It holds yes or no and the date you answered, and it is asked again after a year. It is not a cookie and it is never sent to us.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we take that as a no, and do not ask.
Counting visits, if you say yes
Two small scripts from Vercel, who host this site, served from this site’s own address: Web Analytics, which counts page views and a few named actions (for example, that the contact form was sent, but never what was in it), and Speed Insights, which measures how fast pages load. Neither sets a cookie or stores anything in your browser. Vercel tells visits apart with a code made from your network address and browser that changes every day and cannot be turned back into either, so nothing links your visit today to your visit tomorrow, or to you.
Say no, or say nothing, and neither script is loaded. Change your mind to no later and they stop sending straight away.
